Teaching Opportunity

 

The Ottawa School of Art is looking for qualified instructors to teach art history courses in the Fine Arts Diploma Program, beginning in the fall term 2018. Candidates should have a strong background in art history, preferably with a Masters Degree or equivalent, as well as solid classroom teaching experience. Instructors will be paid at OSA’s current rate of pay. Interested candidates should send their CV and a cover letter, to director@artottawa.ca by no later than Friday July 20, 2018. The following courses are currently open for applications:

 

Art History Survey I

This course is an introduction to the art and architecture of the prehistoric, ancient and medieval world. The artistic traditions of Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and the Americas will be surveyed from the prehistoric era to c. 1400 CE. Questions of style, content, function, and cultural and historical context will be emphasized throughout.

 

Art History Survey II

This course is a continuation of the subjects covered in Art History Survey. The development of the artistic traditions in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Americas will be surveyed from 1400 CE to roughly 1945. Questions of style, content, function, and cultural and historical context will be emphasized throughout.

 

Contemporary Art History

This course traces the significant approaches to art from roughly 1945 to the present. The course will include discussion on the relevant theories associated with major artistic movements as well as the impact of these movements on the artistic traditions of Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Questions of style, content, function, and cultural and historical context will be emphasized throughout.

 

Canadian Art History

This course presents a comprehensive survey of the art of Canada from prehistory to the present. The course will include the development of the artistic traditions of Canada’s Indigenous peoples as well as those of European colonists upon their arrival in Canada. The impact of major artistic movements in Europe and the development of modern and contemporary art and its impact on Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists will be examined. Questions of style, content, function, and cultural and historical context will be emphasized throughout.
