In this camp, the instructor will guide students in designing jewelry projects based on expressive intentions and personal meaning. Students will learn the foundations of jewelry fabrication and joining methods, including soldering and cold connection such as rivets, as well as sawing, piercing, filing and finishing. They will explore resin, coloration of surface, and stamping. Students will make one sterling silver spinner ring, as well as pendants, a pair of earrings, and a forged bracelet using copper and brass provided.

Register Learn to interpret the elements of nature using the visual language of the elements of design. The instructor will help you loosen up and teach various aspects of watercolour: colour mixing, brush techniques, washes and glazes, lifting, special effects through textures and help you improve your sense of colour and design. This course covers a wide range of subject matter, including creating atmospheric landscapes, floral, animal/birds, botanical, architectural, etc. There will be use of some other mediums like pastels, ink, oil pastels, white/black opaque paint along with the watercolours. There will be step by step demos and individual guidance provided in a friendly atmosphere.
Prerequisites: Some basic drawing and previous watercolour experience is required.

Register This course will focus on developing students’ observational skills while focusing on tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition, and texture. Special attention will be given to portraiture, life drawing, and still life. Students will work from a model in preparation for the Canterbury visual arts interview. Through a variety of painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture projects, students will refine their skills and develop a substantial body of work. This course will cover all of the requirements for the Canterbury visual arts portfolio. Also available to teens wanting to attend De la Salle, or simply pursuing their own interest in art.

Register Impressionism, perhaps more than any other movement, changed the course of art. The impact of a radical departure in use of colour, subjects and methods of painting, often “en plein air” still resonates with us today. Impressionists rejected traditional approaches to painting and looked at the effects of light and nature itself. In this course, we will take our inspiration from the great painters who formed Impressionism and generations that followed in their footsteps: in Canada as well as Europe. Explore the romance of outdoor and indoor motifs with Impressionism as your inspiration. In each session, instructors will be demonstrating key aspects throughout, and participants will be able to create a painting from scratch or equally, bring along a work-in-progress. Individual coaching will be provided and participants are welcome to use the medium of their choice. Appeals to realist, impressionist and modernist painters alike. Oil, Acrylic and Watercolour painters are all welcome!

Register In this 2-day textile arts workshop, you will learn how to print with plant materials onto felt, paper; and optional, plain cotton cloth. You will learn about animal and cellulose fibres and the different ways to prepare these fabrics for eco-printing. Day 1 participants will make two-three small flat 100% felted wool fabrics, as well as learn how to prepare cellulose fibres, e.g., paper and cotton for eco-printing. On Day 2, you will then experiment laying out different types of botanicals to print onto your samples.

You will learn how to blend underglaze colours, and upon completion of a multicolor slab, how to trim and cutout the artwork for framing. Students will gain solid understanding and the basic skills required for relief work, and using underglazes on greenware clay.
Completed work will be send to kiln dry, and can be picked up after firing.

Register Tom Thomson directly influences our lives with his iconic Canadian paintings. He was a major innovator in the movement which later became the Group of Seven. Thomson died under mysterious circumstances, before the Group of Seven was formed, and this only adds to his mystique. Explore the romance of Canadian landscape motifs with Tom Thomson as your inspiration. In each session, instructors will be demonstrating key aspects throughout and participants will be able to create a painting from scratch or equally, bring along a work-in-progress. Individual coaching will be provided and participants are welcome to use the medium of their choice. Appeals to realist, impressionist and modernist painters alike.
Oil, Acrylic and Watercolour painters are all welcome!
