We are sorry, but this course is now full. If you wish, please contact the School to get placed on a waiting list for this course.

There’s a story to be told with every face and by covering the essential elements in our physiognomy we can set out through the art of the portrait bust to tell that story. By starting with the basics on what goes where and in proper proportion firstly with full on and then ¾ and profile portrayals an understanding of what makes a particular individual unique becomes possible. We’ll also touch on how our faces are a window to our emotions through an understanding of facial expressions. My own practice has revolved around this for many years and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with my students.

ADULT ONLINE: Expressive Colour: Painting; Thurs, 9 am - 12 pm, start date: 01/25/2024
Paintings are invariably more than they seem. This on-line course explains how colours work together in practice and develops some key approaches, such as demystifying colour and mixing for experienced artists and beginners alike. Instruction and coaching will include sound colour theory and a major part will be its application in practical art. For beginners, it will establish touchstone practices and accelerate artistic development. More experienced artists will come away with the confidence to develop new palettes, techniques and break rules with aplomb. Colour takes paintings to giddy heights or sends them to the depths with little in between. The consummate impressionist Claude Monet remarked: “Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.”

Register How Colour Works: An Interactive Workshop For Architects, Artists, Interior Architects,
Interior Designers and all those interested in achieving balanced designed colour solutions

Workshop Presenter: Cheryl Spina Dudley, IACC, ARIDO, IDC, Architectural Colourist, Interior Designer, President, IACC Canada Seminars

Description: Understanding how colour works requires that we dip our brush into it to reveal what it has to communicate to us. Starting with the primaries, we will work with you to discover the results generated when colours are mixed. Next we will demonstrate the differences between warm and cool versions of the same colour(s). Finally, we will look at how the colour of natural and man-made light influences how colour looks, both alone and in combination with other colours. What colour communicates is largely determined by how it is organized. Colour can be hard to pin down because it is influenced by, and influences, everything around it. This workshop will give you the knowledge and confidence to make colour selections relevant to the situation. In this workshop, you will learn to: • recognize the formulation of a colour(s) • adjust colour according to the situation • identify the colour of light • predict how the colour of light will influence the appearance of a colour(s) • prepare visually balanced and satisfying colour relationships.
