Painting the Magic in Reality: Alex Colville and Lawren Harris - All Levels
Register Evoke the timeless and the temporal. Meld the extraordinary with the ordinary. Showcased in two exquisite exhibitions this year at the NGC and AGO, Alex Colville’s magic realism and Lawren Harris’ stark realism and abstractions are powerful examples of expressive art. Drawing from this inspiration, learn how to make great art with composed, clear precision. Use constructional tension: suspending the shapes of your subject on a net of underlying organization. Create unifying sight lines to invite the viewer into the image. Engage your viewer using directive colour and key intersections. Paint in your own style, and choose between a realist subject or geometric abstraction. Acrylic or oil (no solvent).

Street Art 101: Projects for Public Spaces - Intro
Register How can classroom creations fit into public space and transform an everyday environment? This course introduces street art basics to emerging artists with a desire to reach an audience beyond the gallery walls. Walking tours around the Orleans campus will inspire students to think about urban space differently. We will begin with drawing and sculpture, then move on to stencil graffiti, sticker art, wheatpasting, street poster art, video art intervention, guerilla gardens, mosaic tiling, murals, street installations, woodblocking and yarn bombing. How to commission for public art projects; how store owners and street artists can build a community; which are the parameters to follow as a professional street artist? All of those questions and much more will also be discussed in this lively course. Bien que le cours se déroule en anglais, un suivi individuel en français est possible.

Jewelry Making: Roller Printing - Intro
Register Are you bored with flat shiny metal and feel that your work needs a little something?
Join us for this exciting workshop as we experiment with adding texture to metal.
Using delicate items such as skeleton leaves, lace, and papers, we will roller print their patterns onto copper and sterling silver. Learn how to use the rolling mill to create interesting texture with as little as a piece of paper to emboss the metal.

Participants will complete TWO projects from start to finish:

- Paper embossed pendant
- Silver and copper textured earrings

We will also discuss patinas, using commercial patina so that the texture can be highlighted. I will have samples to show in class.

All materials included. All technical and project information provided.
Just bring your lunch and your inspiration!
