::FULL:Abracadabra Alakazam - Creating Interest with a Flick of My Hand: Silkscreen, ages 13 - 15; Mon - Fri, 9 am - 4 pm, start date: 07/10/2023
We all have things that interest us like: music, animals, sports, gaming etc. Transforming your interests into words and images that you can wear and display proudly will be our goal. Silk-screening allows you to conjure an image that is as funny or serious as you want. It can be colourful or not. Either way together we will make it look good.
The process of creating a unique and interesting silk-screen print on a t-shirt, a pair of pants, a thrifted jacket, a pillow case, or my favourite…your dad’s finest suit, is a fun skill that you can use for the rest of your life. Very simple drawings, or very complicated ones, can be turned into wonderful designs and beautiful finished prints.
Learn to turn your ideas, (with the help of reference material chosen by you in the OSA computer room) into great visuals for yourself, a friend, or as a gift. Do Not Worry About Your Drawing Ability! All levels of drawing ability as well as styles are easily transformed into something valuable through the magic of silk-screen.
A trip to the National Gallery is included.

::FULL::Advanced Drawing, Ages 14 - 17, Mon - Fri, 12:30 am - 4:30 pm, start date: 07/10/2023
Whether you are keen on painting, illustration, manga, printmaking, graphic novels, or sculpture - whatever process you are exploring, the key elements are always observation and drawing. Using the analogy of sports or music, there are warm up exercises as well as methods to break down the steps of a drawing so it can be built up with confidence. This week will encourage the productive habits of a serious drawing practice, of going beyond the persistent, similar doodles into an ongoing process of exploration and discovery into the themes and pieces you have always wanted to create with material and technical support, as well as promoting positive self critique.

A candid discussion on the archival nature of film versus digital photography details the renewed interest in film today.
Students will process their own film and then print 8x10”s for the final week’s presentation. All aspects of printing will be discussed. Students will also be introduced to scanning film and making a digital photograph for social media use.
