Dutch Artists 16th-20th Century: Painting, Drawing and Printmaking emphasis: 8 to 9 yrs

Throughout the ages, the Netherlands has produced some very influential artists: Pieter Brueghel, Rembrandt, Jan Vermeer, Vincent Van Gogh, and Piet Mondrian to name a few. We will use these artists as inspiration for our study of painting and printmaking techniques, and use their subject matter as a starting point for our own work. A visit to the Albrecht Durer exhibit at the National Gallery will be a highlight.

If you like to draw, and you want to explore the world of Comics & Cartooning, get ready for an AMAZING March Break! Learn how to draw people just like in the comics, and how to draw scenery and details that help tell a story. We will make comic strips, comic book pages, draw interior & exterior backgrounds, and print collographs & monotypes.

Leonardo, the Artist/Scientist: Mixed Media: ages 11 - 12
Register Combine your love for art and science in this camp and find out why Leonardo Da Vinci is the most famous artist in the world. Be inspired to record nature, in ink and watercolour, as found in the hundreds of sketchbooks by Leonardo da Vinci. Make a wax horse model after Leonardo's 1499 attempt to make the largest horse sculpture in the world. Learn about the famous, and still copied, Vitruvius Man. Paint your own 3-D Mona Lisa, and learn about this master's perspective discoveries, experiments with pigments, and interest in the weather, rocks, and the world around him. Tour of the National Gallery Renaissance collection, by a former NGC tour guide.

New Age Art: Drawing and Painting: ages 13 - 15
Register This course is for students who want to get ahead using the art of sketching and painting. Through a series of workshops, students will bring art from the sketchbook to the painting process. The finished work, from traditional to new wave, will give students an understanding of the range of art forms present today.

Supplies for this course are included. Teens have an unsupervised lunch hour. Please provide your teen artist with a lunch and snacks.

Before Care runs from 8:00 am to 9:00 am
