Each class will tap into art history and examine some drawing theories by modern masters such as Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse and many more.
Using basic materials such as pencils, charcoal and pastels, students will build their basic drawing skills, exercising some old and new techniques, while enjoying the artistic playfulness as seen in Picasso's works, the model use as in Matisse's drawings, as well as the still life compositions in the works of Cezanne.

Register Suitable for all levels of artistic skills, this course analyzes the human form by drawing from medieval techniques of crosshatching found in works of such masters as Da Vinci, Durer, Holbein, Raphael, and Rembrandt. Embracing the challenge of working from the live nude model via a series of exercises and demonstrations, the course focuses on the rib cage, pelvis and thigh, knee and lower leg, foot, shoulder girdle, arm, hand, neck and head. How to Draw Manga: Level I, Ages 16+, Tuesday, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Register Do you want to learn how to design and draw rad cartoon characters? Do you love manga and comics? Yes?! Then this introductory manga and cartooning class is definitely for you! In 8 weeks you will follow in-class demos and exercises with the instructor to learn the basics of character drawing, comic set up, and background drawing. By the end, students will have had the chance to develop a short comic of their very own!

Ages 16+

This course is intended for beginners! We will be going over how to draw forms and figures using basic lines and shapes, before we get into any comic-related material. 

There should be a class materials list posted with the official course listing, as I was asked to provide one. But in case it's not visible, this is it: 

·      1 90lb Mixed Media Sketchbook. Canson XL Brand ($13.99).
·      Staedtler Drawing Pencils – Set of 12 Lumograph Mars pencils ($11.99).

Register In this course, students of all levels of artistic skills will create egg-tempera paintings by exploring forgotten medieval techniques of making Byzantine icons. We will learn how to apply gold leaf on handcrafted wood-panels and mix pigments with home-made emulsion and gesso. We will also learn how and why these ancient artistic methods influenced contemporary art and visual culture. For this reason, Byzantine art theory of color, drawing, and composition will be used to discover a new artistic medium and mode seeing images for creative self-expression. This will be done first via a series of exercises to understand the steps of painting exemplary Byzantine icons. In following this historical art form, students will next paint a “personal icon” on a wood-panel based on images and visual composition of their choice.
