Register These hands-on courses are designed to assist children, in a positive and fun environment to develop their artistic expression. 
Children will explore various materials such as clay, ink, charcoal and paint. They will learn to expand on their skills in specific artistic media. During each term we will look for inspiration, both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) from modern artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky, Matisse, Fafard, Henri Moore and many others. 
A visit to the National Art gallery and one session with the model are included.

Register In this session students will explore Prague and Moscow, two cities in Eastern Europe. We will study the architecture and use printmaking techniques to express this knowledge. Russian artists Kabakov, Kandinsky, and Chagall will be introduced and we will use different painting techniques and materials to emulate their style and themes.

Register The influence of the Roman Empire was enormous, and has an impact on western culture today. Roman art and architecture, daily life and myth will inspire our work this term. Creating numerous projects in clay will allow students to build their proficiency over several weeks. Concepts of colour, composition, texture and negative space will be practiced as we combine collage with other 2D media.

Get Your Rembrandt Super Powers - Drawing and Painting, Ages 10 - 12: Sat 1:30 - 4 pm
Register Did you know that a stuffed armadillo, a Roman helmet, and a golden jewelled cloak were found in Rembrandt's studio? Let's explore the art work and times of one of the world's most famous artists, as we develop our painting and drawing skills. We will draw a 17th century still life (with a secret code), paint a heroic scenes as in the 'history' painting of the time, create ink drawings, & prints with a Rembrandt fluid line ( He could draw as fast as it took the waiter to get mustard!). Tour of the National Gallery of Canada, and drawing from a draped model included. Hopefully you have the 'mustard' to sign up for this course!

These courses are designed for students at all skill levels who want to draw seriously. Students will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and animated cartoon secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of comic strips, gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, animated cartoons (hand-drawn and stop-motion techniques) and comic pages.
Each season includes lessons on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon-style), the human figure and animal characters.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui veulent dessiner de façon sérieuse. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la BD et du dessin animé. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des projets de bandes dessinées, cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, dessins animés et des planches de BD.

Express Yourself - Drawing and Painting, Ages 13 - 15: Sat, 1 - 4 pm
Register Students will create indoor and outdoor (weather permitting) projects in a variety of materials while sharpening their observation skills. Each class will be set up with either a model or a still life and students will build and expand on existing painting and drawings skills. Students will be introduced to dry medium like charcoal, conté, pastels and wet medium such as acrylics, inks and water colours. In each separate session students works will evolve while getting inspired by the art and philosophy of modern artists such as Peter Doig, Paul Klee, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Picasso and many others. A visit to the National Art gallery and 1 session with the model are included.

Expand your ability to draw precisely and increase your knowledge of art fundamentals in this course. We will explore the still life as a vehicle for understanding composition and texture. How to draw the human figure and face will be taught in manageable segments. A wax sculpture will be completed. A session with a draped model is included. Watercolour and acrylic painting techniques will be demonstrated and practiced. The course will focus is on creating finished pieces suitable for high school, college or university submission portfolio.

These courses are for students at all skill levels that need to draw and write seriously. They will learn and practice writing and drawing techniques and discover cartooning and comic book secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of comic strips, gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, and the development of personal projects.
Each season will include a lesson on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon), tips on writing and storytelling for comic books, and the production of a class magazine collecting original projects by the students.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui prennent au sérieux leur dessin et écriture. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du scénario et du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la bande dessinée. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des planches de bandes dessinées, des cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, et en développant leurs projets personnels.

Under Pressure: Intro to Printmaking with a Printing Press, Ages 13 - 16, Sun, 1 - 4
Register Artists gravitate towards printmaking because it offers choices about mark making and playing with colour that are not available in other media. Using drawing as a jumping off point, students will explore linocut, dry point on plexiglass, collagraph, and polyester plate lithography, and gaining an understanding of relief and intaglio techniques. Register This workshop is designed for students who love to get their hands dirty and want to learn how to utilize their creativity and self-expression. Inspired by ancient techniques and popular artists, this workshop is an introduction to a broad range of approaches into the world of sculpture. Using both traditional and modern techniques, each class will teach students how to use different methods of three-dimensional composition. Students will develop their skills in an exploration of colour, texture, additive construction and planar construction through demonstration, image presentation and hands-on work.
