Register These hands-on art courses are designed to assist children, in a positive and fun environment, to develop their artistic expression. Over 3 separate sessions, children will explore various materials such as clay, ink, charcoal and paint. They will learn to expand on their skills in specific artistic media. During each term we will look for inspiration from Canadian masters such as Tom Thomson, Emily Carr, Lauren Harris, Norval Morrisseau , David Milne and others.
A visit to the National Art gallery and one session with the model are included.

Register This session, students will learn about colour, form, shape, patterns and texture. We will study the elements that an artist uses to create a style. Students will draw with charcoal, chalk, and oil pastels and use a variety of sculptural materials to shape, contour and design structure. We will be inspired by artists such as Kandinsky, Matisse, Klimt and Pollock.

Using their knowledge of bees, butterflies, bridges, boats and birds, students will explore acrylic, watercolour and tempera paints, using blending, mixing and masking techniques. Painting and Drawing: Get Your Rembrandt Super Powers, ages 10 - 12, Sat 1:30 - 4 pm
Register Did you know that a stuffed armadillo, a Roman helmet, and a golden jeweled cloak where found in Rembrandt's studio? Let's explore the art work and times of one of the world's most famous artists, as we develop our painting and drawing skills. We will draw a 17th century still life (with a secret code), paint heroic scenes inspired by the history painting of the time, create ink drawings, & prints with Rembrandt’s fluid line (He could draw as fast as it took the waiter to get mustard!). A tour of the National Gallery of Canada, and a session drawing from a draped model included. Do you have the 'mustard' to sign up for this course!

Cartooning and Animation, ages 10 - 12, Sat 9:30 am - 12 pm
Register These courses are designed for students at all skill levels who want to draw seriously. Students will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and animated cartoon secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of comic strips, gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, animated cartoons (hand-drawn and stop-motion techniques) and comic books.

Each season includes lessons on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon-style), the human figure and animal characters.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui veulent dessiner de façon sérieuse. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la BD et du dessin animé. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des projets de bandes dessinées, cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, dessins animés et des planches de BD.

Students will apply their creativity to the production of comic strips, gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, and the development of personal projects.

Each season will include a lesson on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon), tips on writing and storytelling for comic books, and the production of a class magazine collecting original projects by the students.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui prennent au sérieux leur dessin. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la bande dessinée. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des planches de bandes dessinées, des cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, et en développant leurs projets personnels.

This class is an introduction to ceramics. We will look at the basics of clay and methods of building, such as slab, coil and pinching. We will throw on the wheel and sculpt with our hands, to create both functional and decorative ceramics. We will experiment with the basics of glazing and decorating our work.
