During this course we will create art using elements from nature: trees, rocks, snow, fossils, water, flowers and fruits, trees and animals. We will explore different artistic techniques such as charcoal, pencil, markers, soft pastel, oil pastel, collage, printmaking, and paper cut-outs. We will build pop-ups scenes and creative hats, sculpt landscape scenarios for animals, create aquatic landscapes paintings and creepy insects ink drawings. Tons of artistic fun in each session!

From the beginning of the 20th century, collage has offered artists a unique way to express their visual ideas. We’ll journey through the history of 20th century art and explore the Cubists, Dadaists, and Pop Art movements. Picasso, Matisse, Joseph Cornell, Eunice Parsons and Robert Rauschenberg will be the inspiration for mixed media work using assorted papers, found objects and various painting and drawing mediums, with a focus on collage.

These courses are designed for students at all skill levels who want to draw seriously. Students will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and animated cartoon secrets. Each season includes lessons on drawing hands (natural and cartoon-style), the human figure and animal characters.

This course will focus on developing students’ observational skills while focusing on tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition and texture. Special attention will be given to portraiture, drawing the human figure (with the aid of a live model), and still life. The objective of this course is to help students prepare a body of work for application to specialized visual art programs in high school, for an art related career or to develop their art abilities. Through a variety of painting, drawing, mixed media and sculpture projects, students will refine their skills. The goal is to help students develop a well-built portfolio by the end of the session.

::FULL::Portfolio Development and Alternative Art, Ages 12 - 15; Sun, 1 - 4 pm, start date: 09/17/2023
Develop your observation and drawing skills, while creating finished pieces suitable for high school portfolio submission. The portfolio requirements for Beatrice des Loges, Immaculata and Canterbury High Schools will be discussed. Youth wanting to make portfolios of their work for their own interest are also welcome. Using themes from Alternative Art forms such as: silkscreen printing, design (zines,stickers or patches) and large scale art is done for the personal portfolio submissions.  As well mandatory drawing tasks such as the genres of still life, architectural drawings, the portrait and the human figure are done. Practice rendering form, light and shadow, proportions, perspective and texture in drawing while you observe and do both exercises and final artworks. There will be a session with a live draped model. Exhibit your knowledge of form with a sculpture project and do mixed media personal projects to meet the requirements of your potential school.
