Get Inspired by an Artist: Painting/Printmaking Emphasis: Ages 6 - 7 (Sat, 10 am - 12 pm)
Register This hands-on art course is designed to assist children, in a positive and fun environment, to develop their artistic expression over 3 separate sessions.  In each term children will explore various materials such as clay, ink, charcoal and paint. They will expand on their skills in specific artistic media. Each term we will look for inspiration both indoors and outdoors, and explore the ideas of some artists such as Picasso, Matisse, De Vinci, and Rodin.  This will stage a fun environment that will allow the students to continuously develop artistic ability while maintaining an emphasis on the creative process. A visit to the National Art gallery and 1 session with the model is included.

Personal Portraits: Painting/Printmaking Emphasis: Ages 8 - 9 (Sat 1:30 - 3:30 pm)
Register With people as the main subject matter, we will explore specific elements of art such as colour, texture, line and pattern. We will be inspired by art history, and artists who have spent their artistic career exploring portraiture. Learn about and be inspired by Alex Colville, Amedeo Modigliani, Jean Paul Lemieux, Frieda Kahlo and Pablo Picasso. Practice facial proportion in a drawing session with a live model.

Gothic Tails and Starry Nights: Drawing and Painting Emphasis: Ages 10 - 12 (Sat, 1:30 - 4 pm)
Register Draw the fantastic and paint the enchanted. This course will include observational drawing of a human skeleton, realistic watercolour of real and/or imaginary animals and a mysterious self-portrait in charcoal. A large painting in acrylic of an enchanted "starry night" world will conclude our winter sessions. A drawing tour of the National Gallery of Canada also included.

Register These courses are designed for students at all skill levels who want to draw seriously. Students will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and animated cartoon secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, animated cartoons (stop-motion) and comic books.

Express Yourself: Drawing and Painting: Ages 13 - 15 (Sat, 1 - 4 pm)
Register Students will create indoor class projects in variety materials while sharpening their observation skills. Each class will be set up with either a model or still life and students will built and expand on existing painting and drawings skills. Students will be using charcoal, pastels, acrylics and oils and be inspired by the art and philosophy of iconic artists such as Matisse, Miro, O’Keefe, Picasso and many others.  A visit to the National Art gallery and 1 session with the model are included.

What do Artists Do all Day? Portfolio Development II: Ages 13 - 15 (Sat, 9 - 12)
Register Drawing from observation, self-portraits, colour studies, and keeping a sketchbook will be covered in this course about the practice of being an artist. Focus also on building a stunning portfolio suitable for college, university or high school submission. We will also do a large acrylic painting, draw from a “draped” model, create a wax sculpture and do a drawing tour at the National Gallery of Canada.

Register These courses are for students at all skill levels that feel the need to draw seriously. They will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and comic book secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, and the development of personal projects.

Each season will include a lesson on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon), tips on writing and storytelling for comic books, and the production of a class magazine collecting original projects by the students.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui prennent au sérieux leur dessin. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la bande dessinée. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, et en développant leurs projets personnels.

Chaque saison il y aura une leçon sur comment dessiner les mains (réalistes et comiques), des conseils au sujet de la rédaction et la scénaristique pour BD, et la réalisation d’une revue contenant les projets personnels des participants.
