This session of “A” words will be represented by African masks, Aboriginal Art and the world of Amphibians. Using various drawing materials such as charcoal, oil and chalk pastels and coloured pencils, we will study frogs and salamanders and their habitat. We will interpret Aboriginal art and African legends with sculpture techniques including mask making. We will visit William Armstrong, a Canadian artist who lived at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Terrific/Terrifying Winter: Drawing and Painting: Ages 10 to 12 (Sat, 1:30 - 4:00 pm)
Don't hibernate, come and improve your drawing and painting skills. We will take a closer look at how artists tackle all the “colours” of a white winter. Important art elements will be explored by looking at famous winterscapes; perspective with Brueghel's Hunters in the Snow, scale with Canadian Kureleck's A Prairie Boy's Winter, colourful snow with Impressionist Monet's Snow Covered Haystacks, to name a few. A session with a draped, “skate- wearing”, model and field trip to the National Gallery included.

Building Techniques in Drawing and Painting with Acrylics and Oils: Ages 13 to 15 (Sat, 1:00 - 4:00 pm)
Students will create indoor class projects while sharpening their observation skills. Each class will be set up with either a model or still life and students will build and expand on their drawing and painting skills. We will explore various techniques using both dry and wet materials such as charcoal, pastels, acrylic and oils, while getting inspired by the art and philosophy of great artists such as Modigliani, Kahlo, Cezanne, Mordandi and Picasso.

Students will develop their drawing skills through steely observation. They will perfect tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition and texture. Great attention to portraiture, life drawing, and still life. Students will work from a model in preparation for visual arts interviews. A substantial body of work will be created through a variety of interesting and challenging painting, mixed media, sculpture and drawing projects. Comic Books and Cartooning: Ages 13 to 15 (Sat, 1:00 - 4:00 pm)
These courses are for students at all skill levels that need to draw seriously. They will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and comic book secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of comic strips, gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, and the development of personal projects.
Each season will include a lesson on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon), tips on writing and storytelling for comic books, and the production of a class magazine collecting original projects by the students.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui prennent au sérieux leur dessin. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la bande dessinée. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des planches de bandes dessinées, des cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, et en développant leurs projets personnels.
Chaque saison il y aura une leçon sur comment dessiner les mains (réalistes et comiques), des conseils au sujet de la rédaction et la scénaristique pour BD, et la réalisation d’une revue contenant les projets personnels des participants.

Register In this term children will explore various materials such as clay, found objects, charcoal, pastels and paint. With emphasis on drawing and sculpting, students will learn to expand on their skills and built new ones. During the term we will look for inspiration, both indoors and outdoors, as well as exploring ideas of some modern artists, such as Picasso, Matisse, and Joe Fafard. This will stage a fun environment that will allow the kids to continuously develop artistic ability while maintaining an emphasis on the creative process.
