Sailing to Sillyantium: Sculpture/Drawing Emphasis: Ages 6 - 7
Following the second star to the right, our imaginary compass is set for a fantastic voyage this spring.  With a focus on sculpture and drawing, we will create silly sea creatures in clay and plaster, treasures maps of unknown lands, and wacky navigational tools to take us there and back.  Wind, sea, stars will brighten our drawing skills too.  Your star-dusted, sea barnacled ship is waiting.

Aboriginal Art From Around the World: painting/Printmaking Emphasis: Ages 6 - 7
Students will be introduced to various styles of painting using acrylic, tempera and watercolour paints. We will learn the history and traditions of some Aboriginal cultures through their stories and legends. We will use styrofoam and rubber tiles to explore printmaking techniques. The art of China, South America and Africa will be the focus.

Tips From Great Painters III: The Impressionists: Ages 10 - 12
Spring and the Impressionist: a perfect combination.   This course will encourage you to brighten your palette and quicken your brush work.  Student will paint from a variety of spring motifs: cityscapes, water and bridges, and flowers and bugs.  Special projects in this session will include printmaking with a Japanese influence, wax sculpture of the figure and watercolour painting outdoors.

Painting in Acrylics and Oils: Ages 13 - 16
In this new course, students will develop their painting skills using both acrylic and oil paints. Students will learn how to stretch and gesso canvas, and will expand on skills such as colour mixing, paint handling and personal expression. Students will also draw from observation to deepen their understanding of the essentials of composition, line and colour. This course will include an introduction to variety of modern painters such as Georgia O'keefe, Picasso, and Matisse.  A trip to the National Gallery of Art and  2 sessions with the model are included.

Comic Books and Cartooning: Ages 13 - 15

These courses are for students at all skill levels that need to draw seriously. They will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and comic book secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of comic strips, comic book pages and the development of personal projects.
