Buddhism and Art: Intro-adv, Tues, 1 - 4 pm
Register The Buddha was a real person. He lived in India in the 6th century BCE. Today, in the post-WWII period, a number of contemporary North American artists credit the importance of their travels and studies of Japanese culture, especially of Buddhism and the indigenous Kami-no michi (Shintoism). We will look at their work in this light: the concept of focus, what some call "finding Buddha mind”. These artists include: Lucy Arai, Robin Campbell, John Goodyear, Isamu Noguchi, Norman Takeuchi, and Krzystof Wodiczko, among others.
