FULL: Drawing and Painting the Figure: Intro-inter: Thurs, 1 - 4 pm
For students to grasp the essentials of the figure in addition to compositional issues, half a session of figure drawing and thumbnail sketches will precede each painting session in order to work through some of the achromatic concerns. Two and a half sessions will ensue with emphasis on colour, value, painting technique, composition and the artist’s intent made manifest in each of three consecutive paintings. A visit to the National Gallery, a final group critique of each student’s three paintings from 9 model situations will complete the programme.

Figure Drawing Essentials: Intro-inter: Thurs, 1 - 4 pm
Learn the art of figure drawing using a step by step method. Beginner and advanced students will benefit from this drawing class. Students will be working directly from the nude using charcoal or carbon pencil. You will learn the basics of gesture, proportion, and morphology. FULL:Anatomy and the Figure: Intro-adv: Thurs, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Understanding what is beneath the surface and how to apply that information to the live model allows you, the artist, to better render to volume, form, planes and tone. During this intensive course students use the skeleton to learn specific skills to accurately measure scale and proportion, plus locate critical anatomical landmarks. Transferring these skills to a live model then progress to form and planes. Developing techniques to achieve a realistically executed final drawing.

Exploring Landscape: Intro-adv: Thurs, 6:30 - 9:30pm
This indoor workshop will allow us to explore many varieties of landscape and outdoor environments, ranging from vast panoramic scenes (mountains, sea, and sky) to more small-scale views of forests and foliage. The student will acquire a discipline in working from thumbnails derived from photographs or sketches. We will explore effective cropping and composition, as well as pictorial devices for capturing light, atmosphere, and mood. The student will develop painterly techniques for the modeling of form, as well as an ability to simplify the image in order to give it greater power, impact, and fluency. This course is open to students of every level of ability, from the beginner to the more advanced.

Expressive Portraits and the Clothed Figure!: Intro-inter: Thurs, 9:30am - 12:30pm
This course will explore the joy of creating free and vital portraits in dry media, acrylic, oil and watercolour. The instructor’s approach balances control and technique with immediacy and spontaneity and shows how these can be woven together to capture personality as well as likeness. There will be a focus on observation and sound technique along with exploring the portrait as a means of expression. Individual coaching will be provided, based on each student’s needs and goals, with students welcome to work in the medium of their choice. Basic Abstract: Intro: Thurs, 9am - 12pm
This course is designed for the absolute beginner painter who is inquisitive about colours and abstraction.
Students will examine colours in relation to one another and will experiment in painting Non-figurative Art.
Students will have fun exploring different forms of abstraction: Geometrical Abstract Art - (structure & colour), Colour field Painting - (colour as the subject), and Abstract Expressionism - (oversize art with/without using composition); all of this while getting inspired by the theory and art of great abstract painters such as Mondrian, Kandinsky, Bush, Rothko, Pollack, Klee, Krasner, and many more.

Lithography: Stone and Polyester Plate: Intro: Wed, 1 - 4 pm
Lithography is a planographic printmaking technique that does not depend on the relief of the printmaking block. Lithography enables printmakers to print lines and tones drawn with a pencil, a drawing stick and brushes. Lithography captures the fresh, dynamic drawn mark. We will be practicing traditional stone lithography, as well as polyester plate lithography.

Children's Book Writing and Illustration: Intro-adv: Sun, 1 - 4pm
Students will learn how to write their own story or adapt one already known.  They will illustrate their own children's book in the style and medium of their choice.  The goal is to have a full-size sample ("dummy") book by the end of the course. Part of each class will include teaching, drawing, class discussions and evaluations by the teacher of progress to date.

Students should bring samples of any final artwork they might have done (digital form is fine) and especially any drawing notebook with their sketches if they have any. A book for taking notes and making sketches and pencils would be useful. Students are encouraged to bring in published children's books new or old that they like or dislike for discussion.

Get Inspired by an Artist: Painting/Printmaking Emphasis: Ages 6 - 7 (Sat, 10 am - 12 pm)
This hands-on art course is designed to assist children, in a positive and fun environment, to develop their artistic expression over 3 separate sessions.  In each term children will explore various materials such as clay, ink, charcoal and paint. They will expand on their skills in specific artistic media. Express Yourself: Drawing and Painting: Ages 13 - 15 (Sat, 1 - 4 pm)
Students will create indoor class projects in variety materials while sharpening their observation skills. Each class will be set up with either a model or still life and students will built and expand on existing painting and drawings skills. FULL Comic Books and Cartooning: Ages 13 - 15 (Sat, 1 - 4 pm)
These courses are for students at all skill levels that feel the need to draw seriously. They will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and comic book secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of gag panels, caricatures, illustrations, and the development of personal projects.

Each season will include a lesson on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon), tips on writing and storytelling for comic books, and the production of a class magazine collecting original projects by the students.

Ces cours sont accessibles aux élèves de tous les niveaux d’habileté qui prennent au sérieux leur dessin. Les élèves apprendront et pratiqueront les techniques du dessin et ils découvriront les secrets de la bande dessinée. Les élèves feront preuve de créativité en réalisant des cases à farces, caricatures, illustrations, et en développant leurs projets personnels.

The Graphic Novel Illustration course gives an introduction to the medium. Each weekly session is divided into 3 parts. Part 1 (Lecture) - learning history and theory. Greek Myth/Great Art Mix: Drawing/Painting: Ages 10 - 12 (Sat, 1:30 - 4 pm)
Register Hear the Art sirens call. Remix, remake and add a modern twist to Ancient Greek myth. In this course, you will paint a giant iphone- carrying- Hercules, make an“ Icarus” collage inspired by Matisse's brilliant colour , create a drawing and a “foil” mask of Agamemnon, paint a watercolour of a haunting Arachne/ spider ( Louise Bourgeois's Maman.) and more. We will explore the stories, patterns, and iconography of Ancient Greece and how artists are still attracted to their magnetic power.

Register Avec suivi en français pour les élèves francophones. These courses are designed for students at all skill levels who want to draw seriously. Students will learn and practice drawing techniques and discover cartooning and animated cartoon secrets. Students will apply their creativity to the production of a comic strip, illustration, animated cartoon and comic book pages.
Each season includes lessons on drawing hands (realistic and cartoon-style) and the human figure.

Express Yourself: Drawing and Painting: Ages 13 - 15 (Sat, 1 - 4 pm)
Register Students will create indoor class projects in variety materials while sharpening their observation skills. Each class will be set up with either a model or still life and students will built and expand on existing painting and drawings skills. Students will be using charcoal, pastels, acrylics and oils while getting inspired by the art and philosophy of iconic modern artists such as Klimpt, Kandinsky, Morandi, Rousseau, Mondrian and many others.

A visit to the National Art gallery and 1 session with the model are included.
