Black and White Linocut Workshop: Intro-inter: July, Mon-Fri, 9 am - 4 pm
Register Linocut printmaking is an exercise in thinking and being able to express oneself in black and white through lines, marks and textures.
As a traditional technique the linographic print is the visual result of research where formal innovations give contemporary values.
The original print made from linocut is an effort in structuring and subtraction where the possibility of experimentation has the same importance as in the fields of painting and drawing. Therefore it is very important to point out to the students the importance of the contemporary sense of relief printmaking.

Linoleum is an alternative, malleable and accessible material that gives printmaking the concept of the original print as an independent means of artistic expression.

This course will be offered in English, Spanish and French.

Mastering the Human Figure: Intro-adv, Tues, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Register Linear drawing and sketching are the base on lines and an excellent drawing technique and way of gaining hand control over the line, honing fine motor skills.
Tonal drawing more often used by painters, because their perception of color and tone often based on play of various masses of a tone different in saturation and configuration. And of course also there is a complex approach to drawing with the use of both techniques.
Succession in drawing will result in certain benefits: eye training, ability to catch movement, proportions and composition at once, without prolonged and sometimes tiresome process.

Painting Resource (B): Intro-adv, Wed, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Register This stimulating course, in its tenth year, is getting more popular. This experience is for those who are at a turning point of their painting culture. You already know the great principles of colours, shapes, perspective, and you are at ease in your medium, may it be oil, acrylic, or watercolour; and if you are not, it is not important. But it seems that is always the notion of content which seems to interfere with your creativity; the three “Cs”: content, concept, context. What should I paint? Where should I go? Why I am repeating? Why am I imitating? Where is my creativity? In brief, how can I become authentic as an emerging artist? It is within this framework that we will try, together, to answer these questions, crucial to art making.

The Ancient Technique of Icon Painting - Part I: Intro-adv, Tues 6 - 9 pm
Register In this course, students of all levels of artistic skills will create egg-tempera paintings by exploring forgotten medieval techniques of making Byzantine icons. We will learn how to apply Gold leaf on handcrafted wood-panels and mix pigments with homemade emulsion and gesso. We will also learn how and why these ancient artistic methods influenced contemporary art and visual culture.  For this reason, Byzantine art theory of color, drawing, and composition will be used to discover a new artistic medium and mode seeing images for creative self-expression.  This will be done first via a series of exercises and lectures to understand the steps of painting exemplary Byzantine icons. In following this historical art form, students will paint next a contemporary “personal icon” on a wood-panel based on images and visual composition of their chose.
