Painting Resource (B): Inter-adv
This experience is for those who are at a turning point in their painting culture. What should I paint? Where should I go? Why I am repeating? Why am I imitating? Where is my creativity? In brief, how can I become authentic as an emerging artist? It is within this framework that we will try together to answer these questions crucial to art making.

With the instructor’s guidance, students will work on projects of their own choice, learning painting techniques and gaining practical information. Formal issues concerning technique, colour and composition will be discussed in an enthusiastic and lively atmosphere.

Canvases: For classes 1,2, and 7 you will need a canvas or canvas board sized 12"x16", for class 8 and 9 you will need a canvas minimum size 18"x24", and the remaining classes the size of canvas depends on your project (I wouldn't go smaller than 18"x24").

Paints: For both acrylics and oils these are the colours I would recommend - Titanium white, ivory black, thalo blue, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, and burnt umber. Artist quality paints are best but you can use student paints. Avoid poster paints.

Brushes: Animal hair brushes (hog's hair) are best for oil paint and synthetic brushed are best for acrylic paint. I would get three brushes sized 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4".

Palettes: the main issue with palettes is size. You have to have enough room to mix your paints. You can get a large plastic palette or disposable palettes (I use a roll of wax paper).

Other: If you are using oil paints you will need odourless solvent for thinning your paint and cleaning your brushes. You will also need to bring containers for your solvents and water (for acrylics). Paper towels and rags for cleaning are always a good idea. Finally, it is useful to bring a pencil, vine charcoal and masking tape.

If you are unsure about what to bring, I will be discussing supplies in the first class.

Drawing & Cartooning - Dessin et bande dessinée: 13 - 16 Years/ans (B)
Register The goal of this course is to help students develop their observational drawings skills (drawing what they see) and integrate that into their studies of nature and the world around us. Students will be introduced to concepts ranging from body and facial proportions, perspective and spatial depth, basic colour theory, capturing movement, as well as various drawing techniques and materials. In the later half of the week they will process ideas in projects that explore character development, story boarding and story creation, traditional stop motion animation and cartooning, with the incorporation of Mangas and other types of popular animation. The students will also have the chance to work with one live costumed model for the purposes of learning life drawing skills. (One costumed model included).
