::FULL::Contemporary Printmaking, intro-adv: Mon, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Contemporary printmaking is a class for all levels of expertise. The main goal is to learn the fundaments of printmaking, from technique to appreciation in an open and welcoming environment. The class works as an open studio allowing the students to work in their own pace and allowing me to work one on one. The techniques to be explored are Relief printmaking, (woodcuts and linocuts), drypoint and introduction to etching and aquatint, and for more advanced students, intro to lithography.

This class is great for beginners in printmaking as well as experienced printmaking artists with non-typical ideas or people interested in pop art.
The idea of the class is to integrate printmaking techniques and qualities in your personal work. Unlike other print classes, this course is more focused on the aesthetic and visual possibilities of printmaking, and not the “hard rules”. This class is not about what you can't do but is about all the different approaches of printmaking techniques

Lithography is a planographic printmaking technique (does not depend on the relief of the printmaking block). Lithography captures the fresh, dynamic drawn mark. Stone lithography enables printmakers to print lines and tones drawn with a pencil, a drawing stick and brushes; polyester plate lithography uses permanent marker to create the drawn image. With some computer savvy, artists can use their photographs to create images on polyester plates.

Follow in the footsteps of the Group of Seven for a sketching and painting expedition in the Canadian wilderness. Create dry media and paint sketches using sound practices as they apply to the Canadian landscape: composition, simplification, colour and value - with a modernist edge! During annual trips to the north shore of Lake Superior, Lawren Harris lead members of the group and evolved the style the Group of Seven is best known for: rich, decorative colours melding with deeply-felt perceptions of nature. Whether inspired by the stark and mystical landscapes of Lawren Harris, the lyrical styles of J.E.H. MacDonald and Arthur Lismer or the consummate paint mastery of A.Y. Jackson, join us for a weekend in the company of the most legendary group of Canadian painters.

Limitless Colour (Sat/Sun Mar 28/29 9:30am - 4:30pm | All Levels)
Register Paintings are invariably more than they seem. This workshop explains how colours work together in practice and develops some key approaches, such as demystifying and mixing for experienced artists and beginners alike. Instruction and coaching will include sound colour theory and a major part will be its application in practical art. Participants will be able to develop a painting in the medium of their choice. For beginners, the workshop will establish touchstone practices and accelerate artistic development. More experienced artists will come away with the confidence to develop new palettes, techniques and also break rules with aplomb. Colour takes paintings to giddy heights or sends them to the depths with little in between. The consummate impressionist Claude Monet remarked: “Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.”
