Landscape Painting: Winter / Peinture de paysage: L'hiver: 7-10 Years/ans
If you want to develop your abilities in painting, this is the course for you! This landscape painting course will be about winter scenery and about how to paint “white” with many shades of colour. We will look at Canadian impressionist painters such as Maurice Cullen, James Wilson Morrice, Cornelius Krieghoff, and William Kurelek, and others. Using watercolour, ink, and acrylics, we will paint the snow covered pine trees of Canada, and the sun drenched palm trees found in Cuba during the winter season. People and buildings will also be integrated to our landscapes. No prior painting experience necessary.

Painting Resource (B): Inter -adv
This experience is for those who are at a turning point in their painting culture. What should I paint? Where should I go? Why I am repeating? Why am I imitating? Where is my creativity? In brief, how can I become authentic as an emerging artist? It is within this framework that we will try together to answer these questions crucial to art making.

Oil or Acrylic Landscape Painting: Grow Your Art - Inter/Adv
Register To grow in art we need to challenge ourselves. We need to try different palettes and canvas sizes. We need to simplify. Since we live in a northern climate, ‘plein air’ painting is more limited, making it necessary to work from photos as our primary source of inspiration. We will try limited palettes, different sizes, and palette knife painting, all in an effort to achieve less detail and more painterly paintings. There will be class demos, and, if desired, time to work on your own projects with one-on-one guidance. We really only have a short time together each term, but some things that are covered throughout the year are: scumbling, brushwork, glazing and washes, colour harmony, perspective, reflections, clouds, rocks, and people in the landscape. Students will be encouraged to push their limits.

Painting Your Way Out of a Corner / Peindre avec confiance: L'art de la résolution de problèmes - All Levels / tous les niveaux (B)
Register In the tradition of The Artist’s Way, by American author Julia Cameron, this exciting weekend workshop will introduce painting as a jumping-off point for realizing one’s full creative potential in all areas of life. Using brushstrokes instead of words, participants will create a painting journal that relies on improvisation and imagination to overcome obstacles and find new solutions that often seem out of reach. Through a series of exercises that emphasize improvisation and risk-taking, participants will learn how to quiet their inner critics and strengthen their creativity. The more we learn to play and accept whatever appears on the page, the more we are able to try new things in life! Some materials are included in the course fee.

Make Your Own Moccasins! All Levels
Register In this moccasin-making workshop, students will be joined by Pass The Feather representative Dawn Setford (Mohawk) and instructor Beverly Anger (Onondaga/Métis).

A traditional opening will begin our workshop and we are honoured to have Ms. Elaine Kicksoway and her son Theland perform a song and offering. You may remember young Theland from his famous appearance of leading in PM Trudeau’s new cabinet in November. Elaine is a knowledge keeper and has taught many of us in the community.

The word ‘moccasin’ refers to the protective hide footwear worn by First Nations, Inuit and Métis Nations. They were specifically designed for individual environmental protection, i.e. Plains groups had hard sole moccasins for rocky terrain.

Woodland Native communities (Haudenosaunee/Iroquois) often adorned their moccasins with floral or animal beadwork designs, small bone carvings or quill décor.

In this moccasin-making workshop, students will be joined by Pass The Feather representative Dawn Setford (Mohawk) and instructor Beverly Anger (Onondaga/Métis).

Our workshop includes all of the materials you will need to complete and personalize your own pair of mocs! Students will be guided through the entire process of moccasin-making, starting with picking a pattern of your size, cutting your leather, sewing with sinew and personalizing your mocs just how you like!

Should you have your own leather or adornments set aside for just an occasion, you can certainly bring them along.

We hope you’ll join us. Register early! We only have 12 seats available for this workshop.

This is a fundraising event for 'Pass the Feather', whcih is being hosted by the OSA. All money (aside from HST) will go to the 'Pass the Feather' to support their activities in isolated communities. You can find more about Pass the Feather on their website: www.passthefeather.org
