The Ottawa School of Art is honoured to announce the establishment of the Sheila Durno Memorial Scholarship. Sheila passed away in 2016 following a courageous battle with cancer. This scholarship was created to commemorate Sheila’s artistic spirit and giving nature by providing financial support to students in need at the Ottawa School of Art. The scholarship has been funded by Sheila’s friends, colleagues, and her husband, Peter Beyer.
The $200 scholarship will be awarded on a basis of financial need and artistic merit. The scholarship is open to any full or part time student at the Ottawa School of Art who has taken at least one class at the Ottawa School of Art in the six months prior to the application date. The application will be available in November 2016, and the recipient will be announced prior to the end of the 2016 fall semester. In order to apply, students must submit a complete application, an artist statement, and 5 pieces of original work.
In announcing the scholarship, Malika Welsh said “The Ottawa School of Art is proud to honour Sheila Durno’s artistic legacy and generous spirit through this scholarship.”
