Eligibility and Submission Guidelines

 

Born in Germany in 1929, Fritz Allgoewer immigrated to Canada in 1951. He began formal art studies at the age of 15, first receiving private lessons, then attending the Freie-Kunstschule in Stuttgart.  As a metal-working apprentice with WMF in Germany, he received intensive instruction in art and design. Fritz also studied with Arthur Lismer at the Museum of Fine Art in Montreal. He has taught painting in all media and outdoor landscaping at various times in both formal and informal learning environments, including at the Willistead Art Gallery, Windsor.

 

Fritz was primarily a landscape artist (also portraits and animals), working in pastel, water colour, oil and pen & ink. He loved all things nature, and found beauty everywhere he looked.

 

Some accolades include: Pearce Lettner Purchaes Award, Art Gallery of Windsor 1967; Numerous Honorable Mentions in juried art shows; and is listed in Who’s Who Canadian Art.

Exhibits include Gallery Gemst, Montreal; Art Gallery of London; Art Gallery of Windsor; Kunsthaus Ulm,Germany; Galerie am Jacobsbrunnen, Stuttgart, Germany and many more, spanning 50+years. Some of his work is in the permanent collection of The Art Gallery of Windsor, as well as many private collections in Europe and North America.

 

In his memory, this scholarship has been made to support 2 full-time Fine Arts Diploma students with their studies at the Ottawa School of Art.

Eligibility

 

The Fritz Allgoewer Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to 2 students (1 second year and 1 third year) in the full-time program at the Ottawa School of Art, demonstrating financial need. The recipient(s) will be chosen based on financial need.

 

Applications will be assessed in the fall to begin being awarded by Winter Term 2017.

 

Benefits

 

The scholarship recipient(s) will receive:

  • Financial assistance of $250/year to go toward tuition or supplies for their study program

 

Obligations

 

The scholarship recipient will be required to:

  • Communicate with the OSA Financial Officer: finance@artottawa.ca, 613-241-7471 ext. 30, to ensure funds are in order.
  • Provide the OSA with images from work created during the scholarship period for fundraising, marketing and archival purposes.
