Explore the theme of Circus/Carnaval through a variety of mixed media and collage, including painting, drawing, photo transfer, wax and wire. Register There is nothing more thrilling than an art heist! Expand your love of art and your creativity as we explore a stolen a Klimt, Monet and Da Vinci. Can you believe the same Rubens was stolen twice from the Art Gallery of Ontario? Make a painting hidden under another painting. Create a Michelangelo drawing (cartoon) that looks 500 years old, and learn of the discovery of the “arm pit” cartoon. Discover hidden messages, and riddles in famous and not so famous masterpieces.

Incorporating our knowledge of engineering, local history, summer recreation and travel, we will spend the week creating paintings, prints and sculpture in the studio. Weather permitting, daily outdoor drawing excursions will be the vehicle for exploring the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Papier maché is such an expressive material as well as being both ecological and inexpensive. Create your own world in miniature using three different kinds of paper maché as well as recycled fabric, old clothing and found objects. The week includes painting and embellishing the final pieces.

The students will become familiar with some of the basic techniques used in classic animated cartoons and stop-motion movies through individual and group projects. Some time will be devoted to editing, adding sound effects and titles to the movies.

Sunlight and Moonlight: Drawing and Painting, Ages 12 - 15, Mon - Fri, 9:15 am - 4:15 pm
Is your view of the city sun drenched colour, or is it darkly lit? Are you an impressionist? Or do you prefer the darker Gothic style? Capture our Parliament buildings, the Chateau Laurier, the Rideau Canal and Maman, the giant spider, in the style of your choice. Create a large acrylic painting. Create characters from the ghost stories and history of our town. Create an accordion booklet using watercolour, collage, frottage, and ink. Drawing session outdoors. Figure Drawing Workshop - Online and at the OSA, Intro: Saturday, 10 am to 12 pm
Register This 4-lesson drawing workshop offers a comfortable and encouraging introduction to drawing the human figure. The first two lessons will be taught online to aid and give students a solid foundation in drawing the body. The last two lessons will bring everything we learned into the classroom where the instructor will guide students on drawing from the live model. This is perfect for beginner drawers who want to establish a foundation in rendering proper proportions, weight, and movement.

Supplies: For the first day you just need some pencils and sketchbook or loose paper. Optional: scrap cardboard (that can be easily cut), scissors or x-acto/utility knife and ruler.

Perspective Drawing in the Byward Market, Intro-inter: Tues & Thurs, 6 - 9 pm
The Byward market is a visually diverse corner of the city. It offers artists a wealth of material to draw: from open streetscapes and courtyards to stylistic detail in historic and modern architecture. Understanding perspective and being able to depict manmade space is invaluable urban sketching. This course teaches the fundamentals of 2-point perspective drawing. Classes will be a mix of theory exercises in the classroom and drawing on location in the market.
