Tom Brooks’ Solo Exhibition titled ’20 20 Hindsight – Exercises from a pandemic’ will be on display at Preston Square located at 347 rue Preston Street, Ottawa, Ontario from April 16 to July 9 2021. His exhibition includes 18 works in groups of 2 with each work being completed in 2020 and are 24” x 24” in size.
Tom Brook’s abstract paintings marry together digital stenciling with paint applied with trowels and hand pulls. Constructed so the viewer can experience several layers simultaneously, one on top of the other, they create new patterns and optical mixing. This gives his paintings what he calls a “printed or engraved quality.” Seen from different angles and distances the images change and compress as you view them.
Born 1959, Scarborough, Ontario, currently living and working in Ottawa, Tom Brooks is a graduate of the industrial design program at Carleton University, and has studied painting at the Ottawa School of Art.
He has worked as a high school communications teacher, network instructor, industrial designer as well as a visual artist.
