Roger Sutcliffe | IMPRESSIONS

December 14, 2015 - April 2, 2016

Preston Square is located on 347 Preston St., (tower 3, second level with 24/7 public access).

Artistic Statement:
I am inspired to paint from my personal experiences and observations.  I have painted in a number of genres having started originally in portraiture, and then landscapes.  Over the last three years I have been experimenting increasingly with different ways of presenting the landscape and other subjects, using approaches along a continuum from traditional to verging on abstract representation.  Presently, my studies are allowing me to further develop my artistic practice and explore further images in a number of disciplines and media and further my understanding and use of abstraction.

A recurring theme in my work is that I strive to capture the impact of the subject, allowing the viewer to share my feelings and experiences.  Encouraged by John Leonard RCA, and more recently Brian Smith, my influences include not only impressionists, but inspiration from artists such as Gerhard Richter, Richard Diebenkorn, Wolf Kahn and Patrick Caulfield.  Roger has had solo shows in Chelsea PQ (2013) and Toronto ON (2015) and participated in over 20 juried and group shows over the last 4 years,
and had works included in the Progressions 3 and 4 exhibits at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinberg.
