Robert Bradley | Extrospection

March 14, 2017 @ 12:00 - May 16, 2017 @ 21:00

Extrospection, the observation of things external to ones own mind.

In this exhibit, I explore how wildlife and animals with their presence project a feeling of strength, understanding

and beauty. They exhibit common qualities with humans, such as love, compassion, gentleness, and loyalty.

It is these characteristics and qualities that I intend to explore. In my work, the animal engages the viewer

with that common knowing, exhibiting its consciousness. These fleeting moments of seeing an animal in its

natural setting, makes us pause and reflect on their essence and vulnerabilities. It should also make us wonder

what they see in us. Do they feel the freedom of spirit we see in them? Do they sense our changing world and

environment, or taste our pollution in their water? Are they aware of the changes taking place in our shared

space?

Its their reverence and poise that provides majestic glimpses into their world and our own. In these works, I try

to capture a spirit of peace and common living beyond the animal. A beautiful shared moment in our time

with nature.

Biography

Robert Bradley

Robert is a Newfoundland born artist, who has served 28 years in the Canadian Army on many missions abroad. Art found Robert in 2012 while in a therapeutic art session for mental health, where he found art as a medium to express his views of his world, since then the brush has seldom left his hand. Robert is currently attending the Ottawa School of Art Diploma program with Sculpting, painting and printmaking as his medium methodology. He finds capturing the beauty and freedom of wildlife, animals and pets a sound therapeutic lifestyle. Additionally, he has also focused on issues pertaining to his own life experiences, exploring the human condition through the war stained lens of a soldier after his duty and service for future sculpture and painting works. Robert and his family reside in the Ottawa area, working at their “Ottawa Fine Artworks” studios.
