The Ottawa School of Art will host an exhibition of Ottawa Valley landscapes by artist and gallery owner Donald Harrington Monet, August 10-23/22.
Don is an Ottawa artist, lecturer, curator and the owner of Cube Gallery (cubegallery.ca). His practice focuses on landscape, photo-collage and found-object paintings on wood with varnish. Through photo-collage and acrylic paint, he creates sequences of fractured photos which are then unified through paint and traditional landscape techniques.
This show is an exploration of Don’s maternal family roots – the Harringtons and Ryans – in the Killaloe area, just east of Ottawa. Two decades of yearly sojourns at nearby Round Lake reflect how he continues to be pulled home by the water, the landscape and the voices of his ancestors.
You can meet Don Thursday August 11, 6-9 p.m. in the Lee Matasi Gallery or by appointment (613 261 9504) throughout the show.
The Lee Matasi Gallery is located on the main floor of the Ottawa School of Art, 35 George Street in the ByWard Market.
Admission is free.
