I have lived in Ottawa’s urban neighbourhoods for many years where I can walk about observing the activities of people and enjoy the details of old homes, sheds, fences, garages, back porches and apartment buildings. I also enjoy travelling to large cities where I take photos and create paintings of what I have seen.
Cityscapes are the mainstay of my art practice although not my only subject of interest. I find interiors intriguing, and love the natural world too.
Most often my method of working is to sketch on location as well as take photographs. I then compose a drawing that becomes the basis for a painting, which I complete in my studio. From time to time I will paint on location and complete the work on site. I paint with water-based oils on a canvas support and sometimes use acrylics on canvas.
I graduated from the Fine Art Department at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto with a focus on drawing and painting.
I also attend figure-drawing workshops in Ottawa.
I have exhibited primarily in Ottawa as well as Toronto. Also, I have exhibited in Quebec and New Brunswick. My paintings are held in collections across Canada.
I am represented by the Kevin Dodds Gallery and Rothwell Gallery.
In addition, I am currently exhibiting at The Ottawa Art Gallery (Art Rental and Sales).
