Artist Statement
My recent work concerns landscape in urban Ottawa.
Over the last century, Canadians have migrated from rural to urban areas, ever expanding our cityscapes. In consequence many city dwellers spend much of their time surrounded by our manmade, urban environments potentially losing a connection to the natural world. In Ottawa we are blessed with an abundance of green space. As a dog owner, I seek out these oases. These prints reflect a vision born of daily dog walking in two natural urban green spaces: Hampton Park and the Central Experimental Farm.
Linocut printmaking allows me to celebrate a simplified graphic vision of my environment and best expresses my fascination with patterns. Depending on what captures my imagination in a scene dictates the printmaking media I use.
The OSA would like to thank Preston Square and Waterford Properties Group for the use of this space.
The Ottawa School of Art is an educational centre for the Visual Arts in Ottawa, providing the community with the opportunity for creative expression, development, and growth based on an orderly progression in knowledge and skills. Within a well-defined program, the OSA offers high quality instruction to all levels through direct involvement with professional artists.
