“Praises Unsung” emerges as a poignant exploration of eldest daughter perspectives, within the tapestry of South Asian and African households. This exhibition breathes life into the multifaceted roles the women in Abdourahman’s family embody beyond the expectation of providing emotional stability and being selfless nurturers. This exhibition explores the resemblances of the dynamic and physically taxing roles of the eldest daughter and motherhood, a generational cycle of caretaking.

Sarah-Mecca Abdourahman is an emerging multidisciplinary artist. Her work addresses her Somali and Indian cultural history, exploring concepts of migration and familial stories. Abdourahman is a graduate of Concordia University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2020). She has previously exhibited at the Senate of Canada (2023), Ottawa City Hall (2023), Digital Art Resource Centre (2022), Gallery 101 (2022), Ottawa Art Gallery (2021). She was a finalist for the Emerging IBPOC Artist Award and the SSNAP (2023). She has also led creative workshops with Ottawa Art Gallery and Somerset West Community Health Centre (2021-2022).
