Course Title: Demystifying the Public Art Commission Process

Course Description:
This workshop is intended as an introduction to the topic of public art commissions.  Adrian will begin with a presentation of his own work to demonstrate the inter-relationship of his studio practice to the public art process. The class will then examine some famous and controversial public art pieces around the world. A public art opportunity in Ottawa from a few years ago will then be presented, and the workshop attendees will break into small groups, develop a concept for the public art opportunity, and then they pitch it to the class. The workshop is intended to be animated, fun and informative.

Adrian Göllner is an Ottawa-based artist who has exhibited and created public art pieces locally, nationally and internationally. His public art can be seen in Ottawa, Berlin and was featured at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
