The Ottawa School of Art is proud to present the work of Diploma Student
Patricia Kenny
The Ottawa School of Art presents new works by Diploma Student Patricia Kenny. Ontario born and raised Patricia has studied art since 1982 starting with York University Faculty of Fine Arts. She graduated, Algonquin Collage, Creative Arts Certificate Program in 2009 and is currently in her third and final year of the Fine Art Diploma program at the Ottawa School of Art. In 2016 Patricia received the Ottawa Art Association’ Fine Arts Award and was the recipient of the Lee Matasi Memorial Scholarship in 2014.
Pat moves between abstract and semi-figurative work intuitively. She paints expressively with vibrant colors, gestural lines, and layered surfaces. The work is often narrative and includes found objects as part of the vocabulary. Recent works have included collage materials such as digital photographs and found objects. She is inspired by resilience of the human spirit in the face of challenges; challenges that at times can be life changing. The work in this exhibition is a visceral response to a tragic personal event which happened earlier in 2016.
“While this work comes from my own experience, I make the artwork with empathetic knowledge that I am not unique in this. All of us experience life altering events that transform us. I believe that the ability to recover is a sign of resilience. For me the story culminates with recovery and a rebirth creatively. I hope that sharing this experience can, in some ways, serve as an inspiration for others”
